RINA
The flight takes off, I am seated with a juice in my hand headphones on my ears, playing my overtime favorite song, while my mother has some non fiction book with her, reading like her life depends on it, or maybe it does. Because its about business.
The clouds part away as we fly to The Island.
And how did we end up here? Here's what happened two days back.
"Helloww aunt!" I yell as soon as I hear her voice across the room from my mom's phone. The gossip session or more like— "what's goin' on?"
She smiles at me and greet me back. "See, how cheerful of a girl you are. I must say, Rekha, diya leke dhundenge na toh bhi humari Rina jaisi ladki nhi milegi unhe. I can't understand how they didn't like her, bloody idiots."
My mother's eyes widens as my aunt goes on saying some colorful words about them while I control my laugh. She is right, I deserve better not some mummy ka magarmach.
"Sunita!" My mother interrupts both, my thoughts and aunt's curse to that boy's aunt. "Kya? Sach hi toh kaha maine. You tell me Rinu, isn't right?" And as always I sheepishly smile and nod at her words.
"Ye toh bolegi hi na, isko konsi shaadi karni hai." Mom says and gives me a side eye, or more like throwing daggers at me.
"It's fine"
"Hmm—"
"Hey, why don't you all just come to visit me, to The Island?" Aunt asks and my eyebrows shot up.
